Now let’s move on to the MG Gloster. It is MG’s answer to the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour & Mahindra Alturas G4. It is currently the Flagship model sold by the manufacturer in India.

MG Gloster SUV has finally been launched in India for a competitive starting price of Rs 28.98 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory).
Speaking of engine specs, the MG Gloster is powered by a 1,996cc, twin-turbo diesel engine that is capable of developing respective power and torque of 218hp and 480Nm which makes it most powerful in its segment. The engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The Gloster gets a four-wheel-drive system along with a locking rear e-differential for better off-road capabilities. Four driving modes that are Sand, Snow, Rock and Mud are on offer too. The introductory pricing for the MG Gloster is valid till 31st October or for the first 2,000 customers whichever happens earlier.

The name ‘GLOSTER’ pays homage to MG’s British genes and stands for being Bold, Sturdy, Reliable and Versatile. GLOSTER was a British jet-engine aircraft prototype.

The company claims that it is as capable off the road as a Pajero or a Land Cruiser and for this, it has equipped Gloster with five-link integral rear suspension and a separate rear differential lock button.

In terms of dimensions, Gloster is a mammoth. It is surely one of the largerst SUVs that would be seen on Indian roads and has a solid road presence. It measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width, is 1,875mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,950mm. For a reference, it is longer than the Ford Endeavour and wider than a Toyota Fortuner!

Gloster sits on 19-inch alloys and gets a big chrome grille at the front along with large housings for the fog lamps with over 200mm of ground clearance and large windows looks quite imposing. Gloster gets six as well as seven-seat options.
Overall, the car is a head tuner massively due to its dimensions.

Gloster packs features that we are used to seeing in a segment or two above. It is obviously a connected SUV and comes with a huge 12.3-inch infotainment display. It gets all the connected features like the MG Hector. It offers big and cushiony seats and the front occupants enjoy the ventilation feature. A panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, driver side massage function is the icing on the cake. It is humungous in length and boasts loads of space inside the cabin. A huge positive about this car is that it offers a twin seating configuration so you can either enjoy the captain seats in the middle row or can have a bench seat which extends the overall seating capacity up to seven.

MG Gloster has several wow factors, starting with the level 1 autonomous parking. As part of the ADAS or advanced driving assistance system, the top-of-the-line Gloster will pamper you with blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assist and more.

Q. What do you get on the base variant?
Ans. The base variant happens to be SUPER. It is available as a 7-seater only. It is powered by a single turbo engine pumping out 163 PS and 375 Nm of torque, channelling power to the rear wheels only.

Q. What are some unique features of the MG Gloster?
Ans. The MG Gloster is offered with driver assistance features like lane departure warning and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

The driver’s seat is 12-way electrically adjustable, comes with memory function and massage function as well. It also gets ventilation and heating. The co-driver’s seat is 8-way electrically adjustable and gets only heating function. It gets a three-zone climate control. Seating comfort is great and you get a very commanding view. Space in the second row is very good indeed and seat cushioning is also great. However, the last row is only good for shorter people.

Ending the review I would say MG Gloster is a fantastic SUV if size matters for you. You need something that can scare other cars on the road and is feature loaded too. ADAS also gives it an upper hand when compared to its rivals. Pricing is also quite attractive too.

But the question is will it be able to take the likes of the segment leader Toyota Fortuner or the Ford Endeavour.
