BMW has launched the 2-Series Gran Coupe with an introductory price tag of ₹ 39.30 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the Sport Line variant in India.
Design-wise, the 2-Series Gran Coupe is a small and stylish looking vehicle. Upfront, it gets new BMW Kidney Grille, smart looking headlights, air dams with functional air vents to keep drag coefficient as low as possible.
The side profile is characterized by a sloping roofline and it gets frame-less doors too. The alloy wheels blend beautifully well with the design of the vehicle.
From the rear, the car looks okay and nothing special about it, the heavily sculpted boot lid and slim ‘L-shaped’ LED tail lamps complete the Gran Coupé’s contemporary looks.
The 2 Series Gran Coupé measures in at 4,526mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,420mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,670mm, while the boot capacity is 430 litres.
As you step inside the vehicle, you are greeted by a neatly laid-out dashboard, featuring a digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The cabin is solidly put together and provides a very plush experience. The 2-Series Gran Coupe is well loaded with features, like, cruise control, paddle shifters, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, auto climate control, powered front seats, rear-view camera and more.
Headroom and knee room at the back are decent but those over six-foot might find it difficult, thanks to the sloping roofline and a panoramic roof. Also, the rear seats have a 40/20/40 split.
There are two trims on offer, the Sport line and M Sport. The Sport Line trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, while M Sport variant gets 18-inch. The M Sport also gets a chrome-heavy front grille, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, side skirts, ‘M’ badges on the front fenders and a blacked-out window line. Both variants get the same twin-tailpipe setup at the back. In the cabin, an M Sport steering wheel and aluminium pedals are exclusive to the sportier M Sport trim. Meanwhile, both variants get leatherette upholstery, digital screens for the instruments and infotainment, ambient lighting and the choice between an all-black or a dual-tone, beige-on-black colour scheme.
Powering the car is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Twin Power Turbo diesel that makes 190 HP and 400 Nm. This enables the car to do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 7.5 seconds and top out at 233 km/hr. The engine is mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with launch control.
However, the elephant in the room is that the car is FWD! That is not what we expect from BMW.
The car also gets several safety features including. 6 airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, ABS and Cornering Brake Control.
